Please join us in congratulating STT Security VP of HR and Finance, Denise Robertson, on 20-years of service with STT! Our interview with her is below:
When did you start working for STT?
I began my career with STT 20 years ago after completing my HR degree at CMU. At the time, I was working as an HR representative at a printing company in Midland while commuting to Mount Pleasant and attending school. After graduation, I was ready to move on from the long commute and looked for new opportunities. I came across an HR director position at STT, which was based in Mount Pleasant, and decided to give it a chance. I interviewed with Mark, the director at the time, and had a great conversation. After a second interview with the owner, Dave, I was hired on the spot. Over the years, I worked my way up through various changes in the company. Eventually, I was offered a more business-focused role, which led to my promotion to COO. During this time, I also pursued an MBA. After completing my degree, I was promoted to CEO. When Dave decided to retire, we discussed a transition, and ultimately, Jason, Calvin, and I purchased the company from him in March 2017.
How many positions have you held?
Throughout my time at STT, I’ve transitioned into various roles, always with a focus on building genuine partnerships with clients. Our approach has always been to foster deep, meaningful relationships rather than operate as a large, impersonal corporation. Our clients often become partners and friends, which has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the business.
What has been your favorite part about working for STT?
Without a doubt, the most rewarding aspect of my role has been getting to know our employees. Their dedication and passion are what drive our success.
What is your favorite story or experience from working with us?
My favorite experiences are always when I have the opportunity to visit our sites and interact with employees and clients. These moments remind me why we do what we do and reignite my passion for the people who make our company great.
What advice would you give to a new employee?
My best advice is to never sell yourself short. When I started, I never imagined I would end up owning a security company. But by always showing up, putting forth my best effort, and remaining open to new opportunities, I was able to achieve success. I believe anyone can experience the same if they are willing to take risks and put themselves out there.
