STT Security Supervisor M. Schmidt recently celebrated 10-years of exceptional service! Pictured is STT Partner Calvin Rusch presenting Supervisor Schmidt with his anniversary award. Please see our interview with him below!
When did you start working for STT?
In 2014 I was hired in as a supervisor for [a shipping port].
How many sites/positions have you been in?
At the peak, I was overseeing 14 sites, so I’ve had a wide range of experience over the last 10 years. Some sites are only seasonal or temporary, but the majority of my work extends over all of northern Michigan year-round.
What has been your favorite part about working for STT?
For me, it’s my officers – the people that I supervise. They do nothing but make me look good! They’re all great people. The clients too, of course, make my job great, but I really do have a solid crew of people who I like to work with.
What is your favorite story/experience from working with us?
Every year, we work the Alzheimer’s Walk in Petoskey. My mom passed from Alzheimer’s right around the time of year they do the Alzheimer’s Walk. It feels like I’m contributing to the cause. It’s a really nice time of the year – the leaves are changing, and it’s very peaceful. It’s something I look forward to.
What advice would you give to a new employee?
My advice is that you can learn to be a security officer, but can’t learn to care. Without some basic fundamentals, you won’t succeed. It can be a hard job but not a complex job; you have to do what you’re supposed to do, but I can’t teach you to care, show up on time, or present yourself and be friendly. Those basic fundamentals should already be with you if you want to succeed at this job.
