Navigating Local
Security Challenges

Sault Ste. Marie is a historic border community in the Upper Peninsula known for the Soo Locks, tourism, and its tight-knit residential neighborhoods, and maintains a solid safety profile with property crime rates notably below national averages. While violent crime remains low, property-related incidents like theft, burglary, and opportunistic crimes still affect local businesses, construction sites, homes, and vehicles.

Key local challenges include:

Property Theft and Larceny: Theft remains the most common property crime, including incidents from vehicles, garages, and commercial properties. Rates are lower than national figures, but opportunistic thefts continue to occur in residential and downtown areas.
Burglaries and Break-Ins: Residential and commercial burglaries happen periodically, often involving crimes of opportunity where properties lack visible security. Historical data shows burglary rates significantly below national averages.
Construction Site Vulnerabilities: Development projects, including infrastructure around the Soo Locks and local buildings, can attract theft of tools, materials (such as copper wiring), equipment, and generators; common risks in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Border and Tourism-Related Access Control: As an international border crossing point with seasonal tourism and maritime traffic, managing who accesses commercial, industrial, and residential properties helps deter unauthorized activity and supports quick response to incidents.

At STT Security, we understand these Sault Ste. Marie-specific realities. Our experienced local officers provide a visible, professional deterrent that reduces opportunistic property crimes while delivering tailored solutions for construction sites, commercial properties, residential communities, healthcare facilities, and more. We help businesses and property managers move beyond reactive measures to proactive, reliable protection that keeps operations running smoothly and the community safer.
